DRIVERS OF THE WEEKEND
In total, seven drivers managed to win the two races of their grid. They are Philippe Gandini, the only unbeaten competitor on the Historic Tour 2022, but also Davide Leone (F3 Classic), Lionel Robert (Formula Renault Classic), Franck Julien (Racing 81), Stéphane Nguyen (SportProtosCup), José Beltramelli (Asavé Racing 65) and Laurent Fresnais (Roadster Pro Cup). Gislain Genecand also took two victories during the weekend, but on separate grids (Formula Ford Kent and Formula Ford Historic).
THEY SAID
Philippe Gandini (winner in Maxi 1300 Series with a Mini Jem): "I am obviously happy with these two new victories that I dedicate to my trainer Serge. This morning, it was still close with the Mini Coopers, but I was able to ensure a little at the end. Against some of them, I have a small power deficit with my "classic" cylinder head, but my Mini Jem is lighter and has a better aero".
Laurent Fresnais double winner in Roadster Pro Cup) : " I am very happy to have won this race (the morning one), because the youngsters are growing and the competition is more and more severe ! This is the interest of such a monotype formula. I had a good fight with Steeve (Hergault) in the first laps, then Axel (Castillou) joined us and I managed to escape with him and pass him in the last lap. It could have been worse, because I also lost the brakes twice during the race..." (Laurent Fresnais doubled up in the afternoon in race 2).
Hugo Carini (winner in Formula Ford Kent on a Van Diemen RF90): "It was good to win today because I finally lost the benefit of my victory yesterday by being penalized after the race by five seconds for contact at the start. So today I started third again, before moving up and passing Arnaud (Dousse) to take the lead at the halfway point".
Frédéric Lajoux (second in F3 Classic with a March 793): "In the first few laps I was well behind Davide (Leone), but then my tires started to overheat. At the end of the race, I also had the same fuel problems as yesterday. Anyway, I was a step below Davide this weekend".
UPDATE ON THE FRENCH CHAMPIONSHIP
By repeating his victory of the day before in F3 Classic, the Italian Davide Leone realizes the good operation of the day. This double victory allows him to join Hugo Carini (Formula Ford Kent) at the top of the French Single Seater/Proto Championship. By being reclassified from 1st to 3rd place in his race on Saturday, the latter lost ten precious points. The provisional podium is now completed by the Swiss Gislain Genecand, while François Belle is the big loser of this Sunday because of his withdrawal in Formula Ford Historic.
In the French GT/Tourism Championship, Philippe Gandini now has a solid lead over his closest pursuers, whose names are now José Beltramelli (Asavé Racing 65) and Fabrice Lefebvre, the latter despite the Drive Through that prevented him from signing the double in Saloon Cars today.
