THE FRENCH CHAMPIONSHIP UPDATE
With the final round of the French Circuit Championship just four weeks away, the Historic Tour drivers played their penultimate cards this weekend in western France. Where do things stand in the championship’s four categories?
In the Single-Seaters/Prototypes category, François Belle (Formula Ford Historic) holds onto the lead with 305 points, but loses ground to Axel Castillou (Formula Ford Kent), after finishing second in Race 1 and third in Race 2. Castillou, winner of Race 1 and second in Race 2, now totals 265 points. Mathieu Boissière follows closely on the same grid with 254 points.
In GT/Touring Pre-90, Alain Lagache (Maxi 2L) remains at the top of the standings after two wins this weekend. He now has 295 points, 33 ahead of Dominique Vulliez (Lotus Trophy) with 262. Nicolas Beloou, also competing in the Lotus Trophy, climbed onto the podium with 249 points thanks to a second place in Race 1 and a victory in Race 2.
In GT/Touring Post-90, Yannick Blanc takes over the lead with 282 points, just one ahead of Frédéric Chaulan (Youngtimers GTi Cup), thanks to his win in Race 1 of the Roadster Pro Cup and fourth place in Race 2. Julien Nougaret (Roadster Pro Cup) holds onto third place with 254 points.
Finally, in Historic Endurance, Sébastien Mathieu broke away at the top after a spectacular victory in the 200 km of the Historic Tour Val de Vienne. He now totals 141 points, 25 more than Jean-Pierre Destombes, who staged a strong comeback after an incident in the first corner forced him to restart from the back of the grid. In third place, a new duo joined the podium: Julien Grenet and Christian Danne, with 106 points.
