The curtain fell this Sunday evening on the Albi circuit of Le Séquestre, this last day of races closing the 2022 edition of the Historic Tour (the French Historic Circuit Championship).

Franck Morel (Franck Morel (winner of Race 1 of the SportProtosCup in a Toj BMW and former French champion in 2016/2017): "I haven't been back to the Historic Tour for a number of years. Here, in Albi, I am a bit at home, but there are also other beautiful circuits on the calendar and it's always nice to be able to drive on a 100% prototype grid. That's why I'm thinking of coming back occasionally in 2023, alongside my CER program".
Laurent Sabatier (winner in GT Classic with a Porsche 993 GT2 and former French champion in 2020): "It's my return this weekend. As I already had no chance in the French championship after the Lédenon round, I had given up the Historic Tour. In the absence of Julien (Grenet) I lack a little competition, that will perhaps lead me to drive with a car of another category next season ".
Fabien Julia (winner in the Youngtimers GTI Cup with a Honda Civic): "As a native of Albi I am obviously very happy to win here! At the same time, I'm also disappointed for Franck (Quagliozzi), who deserved this victory. The breakage of a cardan shaft decided otherwise. Afterwards, like yesterday, it was still a great fight between us".
THE MEN OF THE WEEKEND
Seven drivers escaped defeat this weekend by remaining undefeated on their respective platforms, namely : Franck Morel (in SportProtosCup), Lionel Robert (Formula Renault Classic), Philippe Gandini (Maxi 1300 Series), Alex Castillou (Roadster Pro Cup), Laurent Sabatier (GT Classic), Fabrice Lefebvre (Saloon Cars) and Anthoni Vetro (Lotus Trophy).
TO THE FRENCH CHAMPIONSHIP
This Sunday in Albi was the twelfth and final day of racing of the 2022 season. In other words, it was a decisive day for the final results of the French Championship and the crowning of its two new winners.
In the "GT/Tourism" category, the season ended with a twist. While he was heading towards the 11th victory which ensured him the title of French champion, José Beltramelli was betrayed by the ignition of his TVR 400 Griffith with four laps to go! This turn of events benefited Philippe Gandini, unbeaten this weekend in the Maxi 1300 Series aboard his Mini Jem. The two men finish the season equal in points (400) and victories (10), but the latter pockets the title thanks to his two other results. Aged 61 and living in Essonne, Philippe Gandini is a regular on the Historic Tour, which he has been attending regularly since its creation.
Finally, by retiring this Sunday in the Youngtimers GTI Cup, Franck Quagliozzi sees himself dispossessed of the third place of the championship to the benefit of Dominique Vulliez (twice second in the Lotus Trophy this weekend).
In the "Single Seater/Proto" category, Lionel Robert ends the season in the lead after having again dominated the Formula Renault Classic grid this weekend at the controls of his MK48 Martini (ex Claude Dégremont). Reigning champion, the 60 year-old from Mance, France, has a final score of 395 points, placing him ahead of Hugo Carini and Davide Leone, both of whom finally scored 380 points. As some of the scheduled technical controls have not yet given their verdict, we will have to wait a few days before we can make the final results of this category official.
