THEY SAID
Franck Julien (winner in Racing 81 with a Ford Escort BDG) : " Considering the results of the qualifiers, it was far from being a foregone conclusion. We had to fight at the beginning of the race with the three other Ford Escorts of Kohler, Zavattin and Beltramelli and, in the end, I won by more than seven seconds. This is not a stolen victory! It's also a special weekend for me because my young son Jean-Baptiste is doing his first laps in the Roadster Pro Cup".
Xavier Jacquet (winner of the Lotus Trophy in a Lotus Seven): "After a start to the season in which I was unlucky, it's good to finally be back on the podium! I managed to take the lead from the start, then to manage my position so as not to leave Nicolas (Beloou) any openings".
François Belle (winner of the Formula Ford Historic class in a Lola T540E): "It was another particularly competitive race! After Xavier (Michel)'s accident and the Safety Car, I found myself behind Alain (Girardet), but I was able to pass him on the restart lap."
UPDATE ON THE FRENCH CHAMPIONSHIP
In the French GT/Touring championship, Philippe Gandini continues to make good progress. Again winner in Maxi 1300 today (but only by a narrow margin, with only a 6/10 lead over Julien Trousse!), the Mini Jem driver thus retains a clear advantage in the overall classification. Behind him, Julien Grenet, deprived of this meeting following an engine failure on his Dodge Viper, abandons the place of runner-up to Fabrice Lefebvre, brilliant winner this morning in Saloon Cars on board his Audi Quattro. José Beltramelli, who did the same in Asavé Racing 65 with his TVR 400 Griffith, took third place.
Hugo Carini (Van Diemen RF90), the brilliant winner of the day in Formula Ford Kent/Zetec, also strengthened his position as leader in the French Single Seater/Proto Championship. The situation also remains unchanged behind him with François Belle (Lola T540E) and the Italian Davide Leone (March 783), respectively winners in Formula Ford Historic and F3 Classic today, still in his immediate wake at the end of this first day of racing in the Val de Vienne.
